The Pillars of Faith

Belief in Allah

As-salamu alaykum, dear brothers. I hope you are well. We will begin our lessons in Level Three, and today’s lesson is about belief in Allah.

Belief in Allah is one of the six pillars of faith. What are the pillars of faith?

The pillars of faith are:

  1. Belief in Allah.
  2. Belief in the angels.
  3. Belief in the Books revealed by Allah.
  4. Belief in the Messengers.
  5. Belief in the Last Day.
  6. Belief in Divine Decree.

For a person to be a believer, they must believe in all six pillars of faith.

Today, Allah willing, we will discuss the first pillar: belief in Allah.

◆ Belief in the Existence of Allah

The signs of Allah’s existence are countless, and we will mention only some of them.

Every rational person knows that the creatures in this universe must have a Creator who brought them into existence after they did not exist. This Creator is Allah Almighty.

Furthermore, this universe and everything within it operate according to a precise and well-ordered system. Such an amazing system could not have come into existence merely by chance.

◆ Belief in Allah Includes Three Matters:

1. The Oneness of Lordship (Tawhid ar-Rububiyyah).
2. The Oneness of Worship (Tawhid al-Uluhiyyah).
3. The Oneness of Allah’s Names and Attributes.

◆ First: The Oneness of Lordship

It means believing that Allah alone is the Creator of all creatures, that there is no creator besides Him, that He owns the entire universe, and that He has power over all things.

It also means believing that Allah alone gives life and causes death, that good and evil are under His control, and that He is able to do all things at all times and in all places. No one shares these attributes with Him.
