Lesson Four 4️⃣

♦️ The First Rak‘ah of Prayer

Assalamu Alaikum, dear brothers ☺️. I hope you are well. Today’s lesson is very important. We will explain through pictures how to perform one Rak‘ah of prayer.

How Do We Perform One Rak‘ah?

In general, the five obligatory daily prayers consist of a number of Rak‘ahs (units of prayer).

There is only one prayer consisting of two Rak‘ahs, which is the Fajr (Dawn) Prayer, and one prayer consisting of three Rak‘ahs, which is the Maghrib (Sunset) Prayer. The other three prayers—Dhuhr (Noon), Asr (Afternoon), and Isha (Night)—each consist of four Rak‘ahs.

Once we learn how to perform one Rak‘ah, it will be easier for us to learn how to perform all five daily prayers.

Let’s begin. Look at the pictures and read the steps as well.

How to Perform the First Rak‘ah:

1️⃣ Make the intention to pray in your heart.

2️⃣ Stand upright facing the Qibla and say:
“Allahu Akbar” (Allah is the Greatest).

3️⃣ Place your right hand over your left hand.

4️⃣ Say:
“A‘udhu billahi min ash-shaytan ir-rajim”
(I seek refuge in Allah from Satan, the accursed).

5️⃣ Recite Surah Al-Fatihah, then say:
“Ameen.”

6️⃣ Recite whatever you can from the Quran.

7️⃣ Say:
“Allahu Akbar,” then bow (Ruku‘).

8️⃣ While bowing, say three times:
“Subhana Rabbiyal-‘Azim”
(Glory be to my Lord, the Magnificent).

9️⃣ Rise from bowing while saying:
“Sami‘ Allahu liman hamidah”
(Allah hears the one who praises Him).

Once you are standing upright, say:
“Rabbana wa lakal-hamd”
(Our Lord, to You belongs all praise).

1️⃣1️⃣ Say:
“Allahu Akbar,” then prostrate (Sujud).

1️⃣2️⃣ While prostrating, say three times:
“Subhana Rabbiyal-A‘la”
(Glory be to my Lord, the Most High).

1️⃣3️⃣ Supplicate to Allah while you are prostrating.

1️⃣4️⃣ Say:
“Allahu Akbar,” then sit between the two prostrations and say:
“Rabbighfir li”
(My Lord, forgive me).

1️⃣5️⃣ Say:
“Allahu Akbar,” then perform the second prostration.

1️⃣6️⃣ Supplicate to Allah while you are prostrating.

1️⃣7️⃣ Then say:
“Allahu Akbar” as you rise from the second prostration to stand for the next Rak‘ah.

◽️ With this, the first Rak‘ah is complete.

Now we have learned how to perform the first Rak‘ah. Tomorrow, Insha’Allah, we will learn how to perform the second Rak‘ah.

The pictures illustrate how to perform the first Rak‘ah step by step.

End of the lesson.
