Scientific Progress and the Greatness of the Creator, Almighty Allah

Praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah.

We ask Allah to keep you steadfast upon the truth and to protect you from doubts and whisperings. As long as you dislike these thoughts and seek a remedy for them, this is a sign of your concern for your faith.

Know that the scientific and technological progress achieved by humanity does not contradict Allah's power, nor does it indicate that human beings are independent of their Creator. Rather, it is, in reality, one of Allah's favors upon them. Human beings do not create anything from nothing; they merely make use of what Allah has created and subjected to them, benefiting from the natural laws that Allah has placed within the universe.

Airplanes, cars, weapons, and all other inventions are not new acts of creation. They are products manufactured from materials that Allah created, through minds that Allah granted, and according to natural laws that Allah established. Had Allah willed, He could have taken away all of these blessings or prevented humanity from benefiting from them, leaving them unable to produce anything at all.

For this reason, Allah challenged all of creation to produce even the smallest of created beings. In the sacred hadith, Allah says: "Let them create an ant, or let them create a grain, or let them create a barley seed." Yet they are incapable of doing so, because creating and bringing something into existence from absolute nothingness belongs to Allah alone.

Likewise, what is known as cloud seeding is not the creation of rain from nothing. Rather, it is merely an attempt to benefit from clouds that already exist and from the natural laws that Allah established concerning the condensation of water vapor and its falling as rain. Human beings do not create the clouds, the water, or their properties; they simply make use of what Allah has placed within His creation.

Similarly, knowing the sex of a fetus does not contradict Allah's statement:

"And He knows what is in the wombs." (Qur'an 31:34)

Allah's knowledge encompasses everything related to the unborn child before and after its existence: its provision, lifespan, happiness or misery, and every aspect of its condition. Human beings, on the other hand, know only some information after Allah has created the fetus and enabled them to discover it through the means He has provided. This does not remove the matter from being part of Allah's teaching and His granting of knowledge.

Moreover, no matter how far scientific progress advances, human beings remain limited and powerless. They are still unable to overcome many diseases and natural disasters, nor can they control the sun, the wind, the water, life, or death. All of this reminds them that they remain in constant need of their Lord at every moment.

Therefore, the true remedy for such doubts is to frequently reflect upon the Qur'an, contemplate Allah's signs in creation and revelation, devote oneself to supplication, and ignore baseless whisperings rather than dwelling on them. Such whisperings weaken when they are ignored and grow stronger when a person becomes preoccupied with them.

In summary: Scientific progress does not compete with Allah's power. Rather, it is the result of what Allah has created and subjected for the benefit of His servants. Human beings do not create from nothing; they merely make use of Allah's creation and the laws He has established. Whatever knowledge and ability they possess are blessings granted by Allah. Therefore, these achievements should never become a cause for doubt, but rather a reason to increase one's faith in the greatness, wisdom, and perfect power of the Creator.
