Calling people to Islam is among the greatest acts of worship. The Prophet ﷺ said:
"Whoever calls to guidance will receive a reward equal to the rewards of those who follow him."
However, inviting an atheist to Islam requires knowledge, gentleness, patience, and an understanding of the reasons that led them to deny the existence of God.
Do not begin with lengthy arguments or debates. Instead, calmly ask:
"What led you to stop believing in God?"

Seeing unusual visions or hearing voices while awake should not be used as evidence for religious beliefs. It is not correct to conclude with certainty that such experiences are messages from Allah or supernatural signs.

If the experiences recur, involve hearing voices or seeing visions repeatedly, or cause fear or distress, it may be appropriate to encourage the person to consult a qualified healthcare professional. Islam encourages seeking appropriate means and medical treatment.
The path to knowing the truth is not through mysterious experiences or what is sometimes called "universal energy," but through sound reason and authentic revelation.

Then explain that all the prophets came with the same message: to worship Allah alone, and that Muhammad ﷺ is His final Messenger.
The Qur'an is the greatest introduction to Islam. Encourage them to read a reliable translation of its meanings with an open mind, especially chapters that introduce Allah and address the fundamental questions of existence, such as:
Do not rely on exaggerations or unsupported scientific claims. Instead, focus on the oneness of Allah, the purpose of life, the evidence for prophethood, the morals taught by the Qur'an, and the consistency of its message.
Allah says:
"Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction." (Qur'an 16:125)
Do not mock their questions, pressure them to embrace Islam quickly, or engage in complicated debates before establishing the basic foundations.
Listen carefully, answer what you know, and if you do not know an answer, refer to qualified scholars. Never speak about Allah without knowledge.
You may say:
"I respect your search for the truth. However, personal experiences alone are not enough to determine which religion is true. Let us begin with a simpler question: Can this orderly universe exist without a Creator? And if it has an All-Wise Creator, would He leave humanity without a message explaining why they were created and how they should live?"
Then gradually discuss the evidence for Allah's existence, the truthfulness of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and the preservation of the Qur'an, without haste or hostility.
Guiding an atheist to Islam begins with understanding the reasons behind their disbelief, listening respectfully, introducing them to Allah, and encouraging them to read the Qur'an and learn about the message of the prophets. Unusual visions or voices should not be regarded as religious evidence; rather, they should be approached with caution, and medical evaluation is advisable if they recur or significantly affect a person's life. The caller to Islam should remain compassionate, wise, knowledgeable, and sincerely ask Allah to guide the one being invited.
