The Meaning of the Testimony “Muhammad Is the Mess

The Second Lesson 2️⃣

As-salamu Alaikum (peace be upon you), my dear brothers. ☺️

We will explain the second part of the testimony of faith (Shahadah), which is: “Wa anna Muhammadan Rasul Allah” (And Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah).

♦️ This includes several important concepts:

1️⃣ Muhammad ﷺ is the Seal of the Prophets.

Allah says in Surah Al-Ahzab, verse (40):

“Muhammad ﷺ is not the father of any of your men, but he is the Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets. And Allah has perfect knowledge of all things.”

2️⃣ He conveyed Allah’s message as he received it, without any deficiency.

Allah says in Surah Al-Ma’idah, verse (3):

“This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as your religion.”

3️⃣ Believing that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was sent as a Messenger to all people.

Allah says in Surah Al-A’raf, verse (158):

“Say, [O Muhammad], ‘O mankind, indeed I am the Messenger of Allah to you all, to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth.’”

4️⃣ Believing that what the Prophet ﷺ conveyed concerning the religion is revelation from Allah.

Allah says in Surah An-Najm, verses (3–4):

“Nor does he speak from his own desire. It is only a revelation sent down to him.”

5️⃣ Obeying the Prophet ﷺ is obligatory. Obeying him is obedience to Allah.

Allah says in Surah An-Nisa, verse (80):

“Whoever obeys the Messenger has truly obeyed Allah.”

Therefore, we should worship Allah according to what His Messenger ﷺ taught and brought to us.

6️⃣ The message brought by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ superseded the previous revealed laws, including the laws brought by Moses and Jesus, peace be upon them.

Allah says in Surah Aal-Imran, verse (85):

“Whoever seeks a way other than Islam, it will never be accepted from them, and in the Hereafter they will be among the losers.”

7️⃣ Loving and honoring Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is obligatory.

We should also learn and study his biography, his sacrifices in spreading Islam, and his patience in facing his enemies. This increases our respect and appreciation for him and strengthens our love for him.

➡️ In general, the meaning of the second part of the testimony, “Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah,” is to obey what he commanded, believe what he informed us of, avoid what he prohibited and warned us against, and worship Allah only in the manner he taught us.
