How to Perform a Three-Rak‘ah Prayer

Lesson Eight 8️⃣

♦️ How to Perform a Three-Rak‘ah Prayer

Assalamu Alaikum, dear brothers. I hope you are well. We have previously explained how to perform a two-Rak‘ah prayer, such as the Fajr prayer. Now, Insha’Allah, we will learn how to perform a three-Rak‘ah prayer, such as the Maghrib prayer. It will be easy, Insha’Allah.

Let’s begin:

First, we perform the first two Rak‘ahs as we learned previously. After completing the second prostration of the second Rak‘ah, we sit and recite the first Tashahhud.

 The First Tashahhud:

☘️ “At-tahiyyatu lillahi was-salawatu wat-tayyibat. As-salamu ‘alayka ayyuhan-nabiyyu wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. As-salamu ‘alayna wa ‘ala ‘ibadillahis-salihin. Ash-hadu alla ilaha illallah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa rasuluh.”

 Its Meaning:

“All greetings, prayers, and good words are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.”

After the first Tashahhud, we do not say the Taslim or end the prayer. Instead, we stand up to perform the third Rak‘ah.

We perform the third Rak‘ah in a similar way to the previous Rak‘ahs, but we recite Surah Al-Fatihah only, without reciting another Surah after it.

After completing the third Rak‘ah, we sit and recite the complete final Tashahhud, including the Ibrahimic Prayer. Then we say the Taslim to the right and left, and the prayer is complete.

◽️ Lesson Question:

True or False?

In the second Rak‘ah of a three-Rak‘ah prayer, we recite only the first Tashahhud.
