The Tenth Lesson 

♦️ Surah Al-Fatihah

As-salamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh (peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you), dear brothers. I hope you are well. In the previous lessons, we learned about minor and major ritual purification (Wudu and Ghusl). ????????

 Today, Insha’Allah, we will talk about Surah Al-Fatihah.

Surah Al-Fatihah is the first Surah of the Holy Qur’an, and it is recited in every Rak‘ah (unit) of prayer. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

“There is no prayer for the one who does not recite the Opening of the Book (Al-Fatihah).”

 After entering Islam, a Muslim should learn and memorize Surah Al-Fatihah so that they can perform the obligatory prayers. They should also learn its meanings and reflect upon them whenever they recite it.

Therefore, we will begin learning Surah Al-Fatihah together.

 We will learn and explain its seven verses, at the rate of one verse each day.

 First, I will send you an audio recording of the verse, followed by the Arabic text of the verse, then the translation of its meaning, and finally a simple explanation of the verse.

 You should listen to the verse several times and then try to repeat it until you are able to recite and memorize it.

The First Verse

===بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ ===

(Bismillāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm)

“In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.”

 The Qur’an begins with the name of Allah. Beginning in the name of Allah means seeking Allah’s help, blessings, and success.

Ar-Rahman (The Most Compassionate): One of Allah’s beautiful names, indicating His vast mercy that encompasses all creatures.

Ar-Rahim (The Most Merciful): One of Allah’s beautiful names, indicating His mercy, including His special mercy for the believers.

 The Second Verse

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ

Al-ḥamdu lillāhi rabbil-ʿālamīn

➡️ Meaning: 

“All praise, thanks, and gratitude belong to Allah, the Lord of all worlds.”

Allah, Glorified and Exalted, deserves all praise because of the perfection of His attributes and the greatness of His blessings and kindness. Therefore, His servants praise and thank Him for the blessings He has bestowed upon them.

﴿رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ﴾ (Lord of all worlds): This means that Allah is the Creator, Owner, and Controller of all creation, and He is the One who provides for and cares for it.
