The scholars differed concerning whether “Al-Mughīth” and “Al-Ghiyāth” should be counted among the Beautiful Names of Allah. A group of scholars affirmed them, while others did not count them among His Names because there is no explicit text establishing them as Names. As for “Al-Jawād,” it has been established as one of the Names of Allah تعالى.
Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah رحمه الله mentioned that scholars who wrote about the Names of Allah تعالى said that Allah alone is Al-Ghiyāth and Al-Mughīth in an absolute sense, and that every relief that reaches His servants is from Allah تعالى, even if it may come through one of His created beings.
He also transmitted from a group of scholars that they counted “Al-Mughīth” and “Al-Ghiyāth” among the Names of Allah تعالى.
Among them was Imam al-Halimi, who said that Al-Ghiyāth means Al-Mughīth, meaning the One who comes to the aid of His servants during hardships when they call upon Him, answers them, and delivers them from those hardships.
Among the evidence cited by those who affirmed the Name is the established hadith concerning the prayer for rain, recorded in the two Sahihs, in which the Companions said:
“O Allah, give us rain! O Allah, give us rain!”
This indicates that the meaning of granting relief is established for Allah تعالى, and that He سبحانه is the One who comes to the aid of His servants and removes their hardships.
Allah تعالى says:
﴿إِذْ تَسْتَغِيثُونَ رَبَّكُمْ فَاسْتَجَابَ لَكُمْ﴾ [Al-Anfal: 9]
“When you sought help from your Lord, and He responded to you.”
Allah سبحانه is therefore the One who comes to the aid of those who seek His help, answers their supplications, and removes their distress.

﴿إِذْ تَسْتَغِيثُونَ رَبَّكُمْ فَاسْتَجَابَ لَكُمْ﴾ [Al-Anfal: 9]
“When you sought help from your Lord, and He responded to you.”
But does establishing the act of granting relief necessarily mean that we should say that “Al-Mughīth” is one of the Beautiful Names of Allah?
This is the point of disagreement, because the category of Names is narrower than the category of Attributes and Actions. Therefore, a Name of Allah تعالى is not derived from every action that is established concerning Him سبحانه.
